The PatientNow Team
In this episode of True to Form, host Tim Sawyer sits down with power couple Michael and Loretta Zanetti, whose inspiring journey took them from active duty military service to building a thriving medical spa in Tampa, Florida. Their story is a window into the explosive growth of the aesthetics industry, the value of differentiation in a crowded market, and the discipline required to maintain high standards when competition is fierce.
The Zanettis' path into aesthetics began far from the treatment room. Their background in the military instilled a focus on discipline, standards, and follow-through that would later define how they run their business. When they opened their practice in 2014, they made a deliberate choice that would set them apart from the competition for years to come.
Rather than launching with the same menu as everyone else, the Zanettis built their foundation on tattoo removal, focusing exclusively on that service for a full year before expanding. That decision proved strategically powerful.
Tampa, like a number of metro areas, has become an epicenter of med spa growth. Sawyer notes that across the brands his company serves, certain cities show remarkably high concentrations of practices. Rather than fearing this, the Zanettis welcome competition. Their philosophy is to compete on quality rather than hype.
Loretta Zanetti observes that many newcomers enter the industry chasing social media fame and Instagram-worthy moments. While she acknowledges social media matters, she is emphatic that it cannot come at the expense of what actually matters: providing quality results so that patients trust the practice and keep coming back. Diluting the quality of medical services to chase attention is, in her view, a mistake.
Make sure you provide excellent results, and the rest tends to follow.
As the industry explodes, the range of compliance among practices widens, with some far more rigorous than others. The Zanettis discuss how this uneven landscape can make things confusing for consumers and underscores the importance of a uniform standard of care. Their view is that practices have a collective responsibility to help patients feel comfortable and confident wherever they go, which means holding themselves to high standards even when regulations lag behind the pace of growth.
The Zanettis' approach comes down to a consistent through-line: trust is earned through results and standards, not marketing flash. By refusing to cut corners, focusing on the quality of their medical services, and welcoming competition as motivation to be better, they have built a practice that sustains itself on patient loyalty rather than fleeting attention.
The Zanettis' journey is a reminder that the discipline and standards that define service in other fields translate directly into a durable, trusted aesthetics practice.
