Suggested Medical Records
Technology Requirements
As a PatientNow customer, you are responsible for all medical records requirements, including IT support, hardware, networking, wireless, Internet and local system security.
PatientNow Cloud 2.0 is a SaaS Windows client application connecting to Amazon Web Services that hosts a MySQL database and the AWS S3 and Glacier data storage for photos and documents. PatientNow provides AWS redundancy, backups and threat management to data hosted in the PatientNow AWS environment.
IT SUPPORT – Customers Are Responsible for All Hardware & Infrastructure Including, but Not Limited To:
- Install, configure and maintain all hardware, networking and disaster recovery devices, as well as ensure that all devices are joined to the domain.
- Install all workstations, network infrastructure, printers, scanners, cameras and all other hardware and software components as necessary.
- Configure and install email client.
- PatientNow supports Google Calendar synchronization.
- Troubleshoot network connection and other local operator issues.
- Install and maintain anti-virus software for internal network workstations.
PatientNow requires outgoing ports 80 and 443 to be open. We do not require any open incoming ports.
At minimum, you will need the following sites: patientnow.net, patientnow.com, mxregister.com, mypatientnow.com, newcropaccounts.com and realtimeecontent.com and the URL for the SMTP server.
Additional sites for third-party integrations: compassbilling.com, mymedleads.com and optum websites and myfax.com.
Minimum – 20/5 MBPS
Recommended:
- Symmetrical 20/20 MBPS (up to 5 users)
- Symmetrical 75/75 MBPS (up to 10 users)
- Symmetrical 150/150 MBPS (up to 20 users)
If laptops or tablets will be used, commercial-grade, wireless infrastructure is needed. Access point: N band, capable of bridging. Recommend professional wireless site survey and installation.

PatientNow, Patient Portal and online scheduling are browser-based interfaces. Any device with a web browser can be used to access. Example: A 10” screen is recommended for the wait area and patient check-in.
- Most any laptop or tablet that runs Windows Pro OS and meets minimum requirements.
- Recommended Laptop / Tablet: Windows tablet.
- Laptop: Microsoft Surface Pro. Includes full keyboard and rear camera,
wireless N capable. - Tablet: Microsoft Surface GO upgraded to full Windows Pro OS. Base unit
only includes Windows 10S. Includes rear camera.

Non-Windows Access to PatientNow Full Program
Apple IOS / Android OS
PatientNow can only be installed on a Windows operating system.
Apple iMac Desktop / MacBook Pro Options:
- RECOMMENDED: Install a Windows Virtual Machine on the Mac.
- Recommended: Parallels with Windows 10, 64-bit installed. Easy setup and use. Compatible with local peripherals. Contact Parallels.com for pricing.
Apple’s new M1 processing chip is not supported in earlier versions of Parallels. Parallels Desktop version 16.5 supports a Beta version of using the new M1 Chip but does not guarantee full functionality. - Other Virtual Machine options: VMWare or Virtual Box.
- VMWare and Virtual Box are not supported by PatientNow.

- Remote Desktop:
- Recommended: Amazon Workspaces
- Workspaces provides access to a Virtual Windows Machine hosted by Amazon (costs vary per specs).
- Install a Windows server with Terminal Services activated.
- Install Windows RDP client on Mac to access the Terminal Services session.

At least one network-attached laser printer. We suggest a high-quality color printer, capable of duplex printing.
